In NJ, No Right to Pump Your Gas

According to law in New Jersey and Oregon, you are not allowed to pump your own gasoline. Is this a triumph of democracy or discrimination against the minority who would rather have the option? How would this issue be solved in a free market?

Had a gas station attendant drag the pump across the hood on my classic 911(tank fills in center of hood). After that i always filled it myself. I didnt know i was breaking the law in nj.

Not gonna lie, I really did like the blue law though. Made for really peaceful sunday.

I grew up in NJ, and I could never understand why we weren't allowed to pump our own gas. They still have the Blue Laws in Bergen County, NJ. Sure, the traffic is better on Sunday, but it's that much worse on Saturdays since everyone is rushing to get their shopping done that day.

63% voted to prevent self-service? I lived there for the better part of 30 years and I never had a chance to vote on it. Where did this vote take place?

I don't think this channel has found it's footing yet.  The topic seems to meander, and the discussion always sounds rehearsed.  Like two guys who already agree trying to cover all the points.  Maybe one of them could monolog on a specific topic for a few minutes and then the other could announce a related topic and likewise speak on that for a few minutes.  That way they could make more clearly defined "This is how it's supposed to work" descriptions.

Jade Helm is all about population control to oversee the public when a huge asteroid is thought to be hitting off the coast of Puerto Rico in September 2015.  There will be huge loss of life and aftermath will be a HUGE effort.  The devastation will be along the southern border.  The closed walmarts will be supply depots to assist in the relief effort.  The entire USA will be impacted all along the sourthern border and east coast.  Ron Paul won't be able to mention this.. it is too volatile !

Government job creation just like Oregon has done. Can we say, jobs saved or created as well? Sarc/off!

Increasing wages doesn't necessarily drive prices up –  the employer may be able to live with a lower profit. You have to analyze the real numbers.

The parasite dens of NYC and NJ need to be cast into the sea. Those are some of the most unamerican places on this continent.

You should do an episode on the alcohol laws here in Pennsylvania, the only stores allowed to sell liquor are government run.

Its an extreme case of the government forcing gas stations to hire people they don't need to reduce unemployment. To be fair they should force the banks that got bailed out to hire homeless people to clean up all the empty houses on the market for sale that the too big to fail banks now own only to keep the rest of the empty homes they own worth more than the ones they cant sell back to the people who used to have a place to live before the banks forced them out into the street without any remorse from… Read more »

I am all for libertarian values but is this really an issue worth our attention? Is it important that I should be able to look forward toward the day when smokers will be able to have the right to make their own decisions as to whether they want to smoke or not while they are pumping gas at a crowded gas station? Sure, a law against self-service when pouring coffee would be excessive interference from the government, but being able to serve yourself when pumping gas is a little different than being able to serve oneself when pouring coffee. Pumping… Read more »

I live in nj but live near PA and I avoid getting gas in nj for this reason. Attendants at most stations suck and don’t care about your property. They are slow, spill gas on your car, and often don’t put the right grade in and a lot don’t speak English. If you must get gas in nj it’s a better bet to go to a wawa or quick check. Younger people work there and won’t put in the wrong grade and will try to move you along almost as fast as you could pump yourself. When it’s extreme cold… Read more »

Damn I wish politics were old school like Ron Paul that's from an era when honesty had merit and common sense was used to confont all problems. Now day's the truth gets lost in the amount of information being thrown out their from people that don't value truth but their own paycheck no matter what negative effect it has on society. Toxicity is no longer a concern and lying used to be shameful and everybody looked for it to throw your ass under the bus. Nowadays lying is supported and encouraged. Whatever happened to the honest and respectable politicians like… Read more »
