Bipartisan Support For Turkey Sanctions – A ‘Victory’ For Trump?

Republicans and some Democrats seem to be settling for heavy sanctions on NATO ally Turkey for its incursion into Syria, with hawks like Lindsey Graham softening his tone over Trump’s decision to pull US troops from the line of fire. Do they see the shift in public opinion and are shifting their views? How will sanctions work on Turkey?

Only thing thats bipartisan is War. Jesus man, US should just put sanctions on everyone or blow them up (unless its israel or saudi arabia). There should be a third party because demos and reps are not cutting it.

NATO isn't an alliance. It's more like a dog-walker where the US holds all the leashes.

Democrats and Republicans disagree on a lot of things, but they overwhelmingly agree on war, sanctions, etc. They all come together and vote for them.

Since the US set a standard that you can invade countries as long as you have some bullshit national security excuse, other countries are now following in their footsteps. I guess the US feels international law applies to everyone except themselves.

What do we want?
PEACE!
When do we want it?
NOW!

When was the last time you saw a rally like that? The last time I did was in 2007. People were protesting the Iraq war and rightfully so. Today, there are no antiwar rallies. If there are, you probably won't see them in the mainstream media.

A handful of American soldiers are no longer at risk being caught between the Kurds who fought alongside us against ISIS but whose loyalty is historically flighty and Turkey which is still nominally our NATO ally. Their absence has been backfilled by Russia whose troops are in harms way instead of ours. President Trump warned Erdogan against attacking the Kurds and so has Putin. Erdogan has also been warned by our beloved President that not one ISIS captive should be allowed to escape. He warned Erdogan he'd smash Turkey's economy which is in bad shape alteady. He's sanctioning banks in… Read more »

Until I see the criminals of 9 – 11 arrested I don't trust a damn thing any President says. How can I? How can you? A lot of other questions also. Serious ones. Far more serious that "Trade Deals" bullshit. I don't need your trade deals, my community will be fine. I want the murderous criminals who have killed and sent men (and women) to die by the hundreds of thousands. Get me them or you no longer have any authority in my eyes.

Turkey is the most powerful and of most strategic importance in the region. The US and EU are stupid to place top priority on Israel and Saudi Arabia instead. The sanctions and negativity toward Turkey is only going to anger them even more. When Obama started out, he tried by making Turkey his first stop in the Middle East. But stupidity always wins in US foreign policy.

This whole thing is such a joke. The political class is disgusting.

How about you get our 50 Nuclear weapons back from them before you sanction them. Just a thought and how the #$% did we let them have full control of 50 of our bombs?

I find it truly funny that the CCP asked Trump to stop people from commenting on the official while house channel and the communist bent over for them and did it!

The ironies of the present day are amazing. I am an old-style "progressive" who marched in my first antiwar protest 50 years ago this month. For me, "left" has always been "antiwar" by definition. So over the last few years I have watched in stunned amazement as left-icon after left-icon has revealed themselves to be just deep-cover operatives of the war corporatocracy: Democracy Now!; Mother Jones; online blog after online blog (C&L, Think Progress, Huffington Post, on and on.); Bernie Sanders; every Democratic candidate except Tulsi… And even Noam Chomsky has pushed the canard that "Assad uses chemical weapons on… Read more »

Turkey hasn't 'slaughtered ' anyone yet. Maybe wait for crime to happen before accusing and screaming bloody murder.

Sanctioning a country that has threatened to hold our 50 nukes hostage at our base in their country….. we are truly being ran by imbeciles.

This is all a distraction to keep you busy while they do their evil bidding. It's truly sad that we have such evil cruel people ruling us (from both sides left and right) Look at the situation at our border. I was for the wall but now that I have thought through it carefully studying the situation I have came to the conclusion that its evil BS to build the wall when you look at why it is needed. Think about this and please tell me what am I missing. People on the right and a lot on the left… Read more »

sanctions have shown that they don't work… the people end up suffering the most … Trump has surrounded himself with the wrong advisors, but it seems as if he got the right information from somewhare on withdrawing troops from Syria… (is he watching the Liberty Report?) … everything Dr. Paul does gives me great hope for the future… as far as Donald Trump goes, every now and then I have a slight flicker of hope but I am not optimistic that he can put the country on the road to peace & prosperity… however I am optimistic that Dr. Paul… Read more »

So does the US supposedly leaving Syria mean the the axis-of-evil (US, NATO, FVEY, Israel, Saudi Arabia) sanctions on shipping food and oil to Syria be lifted also. So will the oil tanker Adrian Darya, that was seized because it was carrying oil to Syria in violation of European Union sanctions be allowed to deliver it's oil to Syria. "If that ship again heads to Syria, we will take every action we can consistent with those sanctions to prevent that," Pompeo said.

I'm glad to see the US standing up for international law and sanctioning Turkey for illegally invading Syria.

I'm opposed to sanctions on anyone. I'm opposed to dropping bombs on people. Wars should be fought on battlefields so that women and children don't get hurt.

Hello, I simply wanted to put a few questions to Mr Paul. I am left wing person as well republican and a democrat, that means somebody who believes in a republican form of government, and democratic processes, elections in a society. I live in the UK. I first followed you Mr Paul, when I first watched the 2007 campaign. I have since that time, questioned, the idea of whether or not his view on foreign policy is correct. I take the example of the Irish state, they depend on the EU, but also on British and US security, in particular… Read more »

Tulsi is almost perfect and the most Presidential candidate ; Her foreign policies are second to none along with her upholding of Freedom of speech (1st amendment ) illegal search and spying of its citizens (4th amendment ) that was taken away with the patriot act under the guise to keep us safe . Tulsi believes in our constitution and we the people it was written for and the DNC along with the RNC Establishment try to get rid of piece by piece ; Tulsi should be supported by most people know matter what party affiliate , and that is… Read more »

Wow. Sanctions on Turkey. Not a good idea at all. Thank's Liberty Report.

The American "withdrawal" is in all likelihood a strategic retreat. Probably with the goal of sucking in some more players into the fray, in order to create a casus belli, for what has already been planned.

I was wrong about Trump making a deal with Turkey. They are driving Turkey into Russia, Iran, Syria, China alliance with these sanctions. These are not weak enemies. Foolish actions can make for serious consequences. Lord have mercy. God Bless

Count the homeless.

Count the people who need 3 jobs to survive badly.

Count the broken families.

Count the troubled soldiers who unproductively consume your taxes in 800 bases around the world.

Count the dead soldiers.

Count the millions of people displaced and murdered by the USA without threatening the USA.

Count the countries the USA destroyed.

And when someone says it is better than ever before?

Then count the presidents who lied to you.
