550,000 Homeless In The U.S. and AOC Wants More Rent Control!

Rent controls are one of those zombie government interventions that, no matter how much destruction they’ve caused, seem to never go away. Rent controls may ‘feel good,’ and ‘get votes,’ but they produce very bad consequences. AOC is pushing yet another terrible idea: national rent controls!

Ron: "Let's turn ALL of our politics and lives over to the dictates of the benevolent rich!"

Ron, most of the homeless in California are from cold climate cities. Additionally, rent prices are the number 1 cause of inflation in an economy where we control insurance rates and loan percentages.

Your solution to rent inflation is building more rental units in a free market but what about cities that don't have any room for more buildings or places like Philadelphia where Old Money families won't sell virtually unused properties.

Two points. 1. When you mention "WE", I think you need to give specifics on the "WE" your referring too. 2. The Leftist are intentionally creating hate towards the "Haves" by deliberately creating more "Have nots".

My points is, the free market doesn't always get the job done. In fact, in a universe where power corrupts and powerful people often do evil things, your attachment to free market philosophy is simply naive. In one extreme, the government has too much power and be evil and the other, what we have now, is Oligarchs that have too much power and do evil. Your idea that a 'free market' is freedom is also naive. There is little freedom in being born into a poor black family in your 'free market'. Before you fire off examples of people that… Read more »

Well, I'm a renter. So I like rent control. And it seems to me you're outnumbered… 🤔

The gov is so desparate to maintain high real estate prices that they wont let land be developed faster than the demand by restricting permits ect. If the price of re is so high profit seekers would be mass building and it would crash and balance out… in canada anyway they wont let u built without spending as much as inflated prices are into fees and taxes and infrastructure permits surveys enviro taxes … u arent even allowed to be your own contractor in bc anymore u have to hire its facist bs system

There is no government to intervene into anything. That is the real problem.

Rents are extremely high in California. Rent control was only enforced on old buildings and few cities. But greedy developers have been building extremely over priced Condominiums $4000 + for one bedroom, and majority of those condos are empty!

The problem with aoc is she thinks she can fix things… the fact she is in power is disturbing because you can tell she is learning as she goes… crazy stuff

She’s a nightmare, from a landlords point of view I would have impose draconian rules in lease agreement to protect myself if we have a tenant who doesn’t pay or won’t leave. Aoc is a spoiled millennial brat.

No, sorry Ron you are wrong. In California when they took down the remaining rent controlled housing developers put up MIXED housing. As a result 1/3 of the previously protected rents DISAPPEARED! Consequently this 30% has been scrambling/competing for whatever else that was out there. Housing in China, subsidized housing in Venezuela has taken millions off the streets or in substandard housing. One can trace the increasing homelessness beginning with Reagan's disregulation "wonder" in the 1980s. Neoliberalism "wins" again. There MUST be government interference in real estate as a consequence of the developers making OUTRAGEOUS profits from OUTRAGEOUS rents for… Read more »

I think Michael McKibben hit another homerun answering Slavoj Zizek's question about Hegel's Hegel not needing to be a genius. But, specifically, McKibben provides proof for how the first holocaust was planned to a T prior to WWI, choreographing Lenin and Trotsky for the coupe detat twistedly tantamount and totally the same today, to a T, the Orthodox Church dismembered like this and all the records are there, 4 now. But, the point is made, also, that right through Stalin being the real creator, the sole inventor, if you will, of Israel, that Vigilante Intelligence has a piece on today… Read more »

Rents (commercial and residential) do go up because of financialization of the real estate market through REITs collateralized debt obligations and other types of debt instruments. Rent control is not the issue pro or con. You can first say rent controls exist mainly where there is poverty and therefore potentially is a placebo to the problem. Take away rent controls and, yes you are being more entrepreneurial but you do not solve any issues. The issues were caused a long time ago when rent control was introduced in the first place causing stress on the market. The market has since… Read more »

I have been a math teacher for 50 years. … Instead of making kids complete an algebra class , I suggest we provide them with a basic economics class … -how to make a household budget, how mortgages work/cost of rent/utilities, the actual cost of credit cards, the costs of insurance –car, homeowners, disability, health and life insurance; property and state/federal/social security taxes, how to save, the costs in retirement and how much one needs to save to maintain one's life-style in old age. I think this may motivate kids to stay in school too!

You know you're dumb when even sweet Mr. Ron Paul says you are.

That's a danger of virtue signaling, we vote in unqualified people to run the country. Hold tight it's going to get even more rocky.

I lost my ability to buy another decent mobile home when I decided to move. In 8 weeks time the price of a mobile home went up by 30,000. I am a senior with disabilities on a fixed income who had some savings (thank goodness) otherwise I would be homeless just because I sold my place for $120,000 and could not find another home quickly enough before the price of them went up by $30,000 dollars! I had to buy a 35 year old trailer instead for all those thousands of dollars more and HAD a 12 year old mobile… Read more »

Owners are losing money by renting houses out already. Renting for less than they're paying for the loan to keep good renters, but renters still can't afford to stay there. Kids lied to about housing. Can't build their own anymore.
