In Hama yesterday, dozens of detainees were released in Hama Central Prison, in the presence of the provincial police chief, the attorney-general and a number of social dignitaries and activists.
According to al-Watan sources, the release of the prisoners came under an amnesty decree issued by President Bashar al-Assad on March 7.
An official source at the Hama police headquarters said that 43 of those released will be released later.
Hama police chief pointed out in his speech the importance of the release of the prisoners to rebuild Syria, while the Attorney-General stressed the need for the detainees to abide by the laws and regulations and not to commit any offense that harms the interest of the homeland and the security of the citizen.
