President Bashar al-Assad stressed that what is witnessed in the regional and international arenas necessitates Syria and Iraq to move forward with everything that will preserve their sovereignty and independence in the face of the division and chaos schemes that are being waged by the enemies from abroad, pointing out that the fate of the region is determined only by its people.
President al-Assad’s remarks came during a meeting yesterday with Iraqi National Security Adviser Falih al-Fayyad. The meeting discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and stressed the need to develop them in various fields to serve the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
President al-Assad stressed that the strengthening of relations between Syria and Iraq is in the interests of the two brotherly peoples to complete the elimination of the terror centers on the one hand, in order to serve their common interests and break the barriers that are different and imposed between them.
For his part, Advisor Fayyad, that the strength of Syria and its victory over terrorism is a victory for Iraq also and vice versa, any military achievement on the Iraqi side is in the interest of the stability of Syria.
The Syrian-Iraqi relations are witnessing more openness, with the exchange of visits and delegations. President al-Assad recently received a number of Iraqi officials, as was the signing of a protocol between the two countries a few days ago to cooperate in the commercial, economic, investment, banking and financial fields.
