The government appears to be very optimistic in the current wheat season, which was described as promising. Preliminary production was estimated at 2.7 million tonnes, 35% more than last year’s production estimate (2 million tons). The estimates for this season are different. In simple terms, the government is hoping to buy 80% of the current wheat season. At the price of 185 lira per kilo, the purchase of the season (400 billion lira) is enough to buy 2.16 million tons.
Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmad Al-Qadri said in an interview with Al-Eqtisadiya that more than 50% of the current season will be marketed, stating that the price of kilo per pound is much higher than the international price, To reduce import and demand for foreign exchange, and to support domestic consumption.
According to Al-Qadri, the area planted with wheat by the first statistical round and through the random sample study 1345 thousand hectares, which exceeds the area of wheat yield during the last season about 250 thousand hectares, noting that it is too early to estimate production because it is through the second round At the end of May, and can be referred to the preliminary estimate (indicative) of production according to the estimates of the directorates of agriculture in view of the situation of the crop at 2700 thousand tons at the national level and in all Syrian provinces.
He pointed out that the price of 185 pounds per kilo, which is much higher than the world price, under the guidance of the President of the Republic, in order to support the farmer and ensure the marketing of the largest quantity of wheat, and this remains better than the import option even if the import is less expensive, Is that the payments here are paid in Syrian pounds, not in foreign parts in the case of imports, which leads to an increase in the exchange rate. Payments to farmers will also boost demand for domestic consumption.
He pointed out that the rain factor has played a major role in the improvement of the implementation of the plan for the production of wheat, especially after the dry season, which was exposed to the country during the last season for two main reasons, the first; that about 50% of the planned area of cultivation, amounting to 904 thousand hectares are grown in areas of rainfed agriculture Which depends entirely on the rainy seasons, and the second; that the good rainy season contributed to the rise of the dams and improve the water situation of the wells.
As for the reasons for not implementing the whole wheat season plan in some governorates, Al-Qadri said that there are objective conditions for not implementing the rest of the areas. And the tendency to grow barley barley at the expense of irrigated wheat and Baal due to the low cost of planting it. Heavy rains also caused the sinking of some cultivated areas in Idlib and Hama governorates. In some unsafe areas.
The liberated area reached 824 thousand hectares, of which 535 thousand hectares were planted during the winter season and 8488 ha for the summer season, and the number of families Which will be reflected positively on the increase in the percentage of implementation of the production plan, and then increase the amount of production. As mentioned, the area cultivated with wheat during this year more than last year (250 thousand hectares).
