For his part, the Special Envoy to Syria expressed his happiness to return to Damascus, in order to continue to consult with the Syrian government to achieve progress in the political process, stressing that he will spare no effort to reach a political solution in accordance with the principles set forth in the Charter of the United Nations, And stressed the importance of a number of steps that would help advance the political process. He stressed the importance of this process being led and owned by Syria to ensure the desired success, and affirmed the full commitment of the United Nations to the sovereignty and unity of Syria and its independence.
Pederson’s visit comes after his participation in the Brussels III conference of donor countries, which was held from 12 to 14 this month in the Belgian capital, and discussed the Syrian file in the absence of the Syrian government.
This is Bidern’s second visit to Damascus since his appointment. He told journalists on his arrival at his residence in Damascus, according to the AFP news agency, that his discussions in Damascus “will focus on ways to implement Security Council resolution 2254.”
On the other hand, Damascus condemned yesterday, the statement issued by America, France and Britain on Syria, and considered it «a historical document of lies and hypocrisy, deception and counterfeiting».
A source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants stressed that “these countries that have been killed and destroyed are never interested in reconstruction. They are not invited to contribute to them, and they only have to pay compensation for the killing and destruction caused by their heinous crimes and stop their blatant interference in internal affairs.”
In a statement, Russian special envoy to the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, said that consultations with the Syrian government and concerned parties regarding the “safe zone” in northern Syria are still underway.
