The Russian ambassador to Damascus, Alexander Yevimov, stressed the need to fight terrorism in the Syrian territories, including Idlib and the northeast, reiterating that the foreign forces in Syria illegally exit “as soon as possible.”
In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the school of the martyr Mohammed Adnan Kolki was opened yesterday in Barzeh al-Balad neighborhood in Damascus after its restoration from the Fund of Religious Societies in the Russian Federation.
In a special statement to Al-Watan on the sidelines of the event, Yevimov explained that the restoration of the school is a first step in a series of next steps aimed at providing Russian contribution to the reconstruction of Syria.
Asked about Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remarks that the war in Syria is over and there are only hotspots for terrorism, Yevimov said: “Yes, the Russian minister has said so.” We need to continue fighting terrorism there, including in Idlib and northeastern Syria. ”
Although there are new agreements on Idlib, he said: «We have with the Turkish side the agreement concluded last September and we believe that this agreement is sufficient to achieve the main objective in this region and Russian efforts aimed at this».
He continued: «We are against the illegal presence of the armed forces of foreign countries and call for the expulsion as soon as possible from Syrian territory».
In a similar statement to Al-Watan, the head of the Russian religious delegation visiting Syria, Father Archimandrite Sevan Yvonomov, said: “Almost the victory over terrorism in Syria and the time for reconstruction in the country and Russia was during the war and is still with Syria.” “To see the plan to destroy Syria and destroy faith in it has failed.”
